Monthly Design Inspiration: Product Display
Monthly Design Inspiration Series
Product display
This month, we looked at 3 inspirational and engaging product displays: Virtual, Supersize and Luxury
Virtual Product with Remote Customisation
Focusing on the future of electric cars and carbon neutrality, Japanese luxury car brand Lexus created a virtual model of an installation by Miami architect Germane Barnes (in collaboration with students at the University of Miami), enabling fans worldwide to customise it (choosing their own lighting scheme, altering the colours of the car and the surrounding furniture) before the main unveiling. The installation itself was an illuminated steel wireframe embedded with LED lights.
We like this as it’s a great example of a consciously low-impact alternative to shipping a large product to Miami.
Tod’s supersizes its hero handbag
A giant leather handbag (the Di model) was part of Italian luxury house Tod’s The Art of Craftsmanship photography exhibition in Milan with acclaimed British fashion photographer Tim Walker – an image-maker known for his fairytale-esque works – celebrating made-in-Italy designs.
We like this as it’s a great example of storytelling and celebrating local craftsmanship.
Vacheron Constantin, Dubai
Allowing visitors to get up close to its workmanship, Swiss luxury watch brand Vacheron Constantin’s boutique at The Dubai Mall features an in-store custom strap station displaying leather samples, and engraving and embossing options next to the watchmaker’s desk.
We like this as it’s a great example of engagement, customisation and workmanship.
