Looking ahead to CES 2024

Trends Preview:

CES 2024

The 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas (January 9-12) will be the first to take place since generative AI’s breathtaking rise to ubiquity. We will be covering the event to witness the most groundbreaking tech innovations in action. Here, we forecast the trends we are anticipating at the show.

1. The Ascension of AI

2. Mobility’s New Moves

3. Sustainability Puts Down Roots

4. Precision Health-Tech for Every Body

5. Symbiotic Smart Homes

The Ascension of AI

We’re expecting to see AI everywhere – including in unexpected places. Beyond chatbots and office assistants, artificial intelligence is embedding into a range of new user-friendly devices, wearables and applications.

Flappie is a smart cat flap from Swiss pet-tech company Flappie Technologies, which uses AI to detect whether a cat is trying to bring prey indoors.

Mobility’s New Moves

We believe that eco-mobility innovation will extend beyond automotive categories and into a broad range of mobility products and services.

With the electric vehicle (EV) revolution in full swing, CES 2024 naturally promises to deliver exciting automotive updates as well. Practical, unassuming updates – such as longer-lasting batteries for EVs – will be showcased side by side with sleek in-car entertainment systems featuring immersive displays and virtual reality tech.

Sustainability Puts Down Roots

Sustainability will be a topic permeating many innovations and product categories at CES 2024, with a particular focus on reducing waste, circular design and improving recyclable materials.

Retarch, an eco-friendly starch-based plastic alternative from South Korean research facility Day1Lab, has already won a CES 2024 Innovation Award. Similarly, food-tech solutions that help to feed a growing global population will feature prominently at the event again next year. We expect to see innovations related to experimental farming methods driven by robotics, AI and automation, which will improve the efficiency of supply chains.

Precision Health-Tech for Every Body

Evolving from the digital health solutions we saw at CES 2022 and 2023, we’ll be looking out for medtech apps and devices that are more precise, accurate and accessible than ever before.

Health scanners that detect problems before they arise will be a particular focal point, like Ireland’s IdentifyHer, a small sensor that uses an AI algorithm to determine whether a woman is experiencing premenopausal symptoms and provides a readout of those indicators in an app. Nvidia, the US-based computer and technology company that transformed its business model to focus on AI computing this year, will be giving a keynote on digital health. Nvidia is funding and building infrastructure for AI projects that aid drug discovery. With recent reports hinting that AI-assisted drug discovery could lead to groundbreaking treatments such as cancer vaccines, we’re curious to see how this tech will be applied to market-ready products and services at CES.

Symbiotic Smart Homes

From connected devices and energy-efficient appliances to AI-enabled security tech, home electronics and other smart-home innovations will have a strong presence at CES 2024.

Multiple ingenious designs – such as the WaterCube from US blue-tech start-up Genesis Systems that turns air into drinkable water; or the smart security camera from California’s Swann Communications that uses an AI voice assistant to speak with delivery people when they drop off a package – are being unveiled at the event.

Beyond practical designs, new advancements in home entertainment that provide personalised and playful experiences will also take centre stage.
