Futurebuild 2023 takes a stand
Futurebuild 2023
By Lucy Cherry, Business Director at Ignition
Futurebuild is about building a better future for the built environment.
The exhibition provides the stage for inspiring ideas, innovative solutions, and knowledge sharing to drive sustainable construction and help us reach our goal of net zero. Futurebuild brings together the entire supply chain to showcase, debate and understand the advancements in sustainable construction and the emerging technologies that will make net zero possible.
Futurebuild is about driving positive change and aligns with Ignition’s sustainable values. We attended this year’s show for the first time to get to know the brands and learn more about their future plans and the topics that matter.
The theme of FutureBuild was “We’re Taking a Stand” - a stand for a better built environment and they urged other businesses to take a similar pledge.
It was great to see a show that actually “Walks the Talk”. The organisers Easyfairs wanted to make the show as sustainable as possible - creating a show app to replace a printed show booklet, easy “Smart Badge” tap stations on each stand to capture data which encouraged people not to use business cards, plastic free lanyards made from recyclable materials and few exhibitors had the usual free unsustainable giveaways. All stuff that organisers should be doing but we don’t see enough of.
The show speaker areas were decorated with plants and trees which were sold to Newham Council who would be planting them after the show.
FutureBuild removed 9000m2 of aisle carpets and feature areas and shell scheme stands were replaced with c2c certified event carpet. All this reduced carbon emissions by 27,707KG!
