Five of the best – sustainability initiatives
We’re still jumping for joy at our recent AEO Excellence Awards nomination – and seeing as it’s in the sustainability category, which is such an important part of our business, we wanted to share five of the most interesting initiatives that can support sustainability in the MICE industry.
- Venues are getting much better at ensuring that unused food from events and exhibitions isn’t just thrown away, but this is one of the best case studies we’ve read yet – 15 tonnes of food was salvaged in six months during the World Expo in Milan (while you’re there, check out Ethos Magazine generally – we think it’s pretty exciting!).
- Not throwing food away is one thing, but it’s just as important to make sure the food we serve has been produced sustainably – we love this weeding robot which eliminates the need for chemical weedkillers. And it’s solar powered!
- We’re always looking for ways to replace packaging materials like polystyrene with something that’s easier to recycle – so this material that reuses feathers from the farming industry caught our eye.
- Even with the rise of Virtual Reality, we believe in the power of the human to human experience so predict that delegates will continue to travel to conference venues! This start-up Macrebur has found a way of turning waste plastic into a road surface that’s tougher and cheaper than asphalt.
